Stolen car recovery

If you report it, we'll sort it

Because your ingenie black box has a GPS unit in it, we can help find your car if it's stolen.

We've had a lot of success with helping the police recover vehicles stolen from our customers - sometimes within an hour of them being reported missing.

You can call us on 0330 303 0021 to report your car stolen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Black box GPS tracker

Call the police on 101 to get a Crime Reference Number, then call us on 0330 303 0021

Here's how it happens:

  • You call the police on 101 and tell them your car's make, model, colour and reg number - and the time and place you last saw it
  • They give you a Crime Reference Number
  • You then call us on 0330 303 0021 with that number and all the details of what's happened
  • We locate your car using your black box's GPS signal and tell the police
  • They recover your vehicle - and you could have it back the same day

How to keep your car safe

  1. Check it's locked

Duh, obvious. Sure - but because young drivers tend to have older cars, you need to check the car has actually locked. Taking 2 seconds to physically try the door handle before you walk away could save you a massive headache.

  2. Don't leave your car running if you're not in it

When it's cold and you're waiting for the car to warm up, surely it's OK to just pop back in the house for your gloves? Nope. One of our drivers had her car stolen when her dad left the engine running while he went to get his golf clubs.

    Bad dad.

  3. Hide your valuables if you're leaving the car

Valuables that would make someone break into your car could be anything from a satnav or phone to a nice jacket. Lock them in the glove box or boot, or throw a blanket over your shopping. Better yet - don't leave nice things in the car. It's asking for trouble.

  4. Park in a well-lit area

It's much harder to steal a car if you're lit up like Christmas. With CCTV and nosy neighbours, a car thief is unlikely to feel comfortable trying to gain entry under a streetlight. If you can, avoid parking in dark spots.

  5. Get a car tracker

A GPS tracker (which cost around £200 plus running costs) will make sure you can locate your car if it's stolen. Or you could just insure with ingenie and let us do the work for you.

Our black boxes (which cost exactly £0 with your policy) have a GPS tracker in them, so if your car's gone missing, it hopefully won't be long before we find it for you.
