Did someone say snow?

Unless you've been hiding under a very cold rock for the last few days you may have realised by now that it's snowing. A lot.

And since we care SO much about your safety and well-being (like an overprotective Mum), we just wanted to check you're in the know with a few things.

  1. You're still insured to drive

A few of our drivers have got in touch to check whether they're still insured to drive in bad weather. The short answer: yes. Do not panic.

Driving in snow and ice is not something we'd ever be encouraging so if you do have other ways of getting to where you need to be, it's safer (and probably a lot less stressful) to leave the car at home.

Note: if a red weather warning has been issued in your area you'll still be insured to drive your car with ingenie. BUT, we'd strongly advise that you avoid driving at all in these conditions.
  2. Your black box won't be affected

The black box in your car will work as normal in snowy weather. Driving at much lower speeds won't give you a rubbish score nor will revving the engine a bit more than you usually would. But taking corners quickly, pressing the accelerator hard and suddenly hitting the brakes will all be picked up by the box as harsh driving.

If you're choosing to leave your car under its blanket of snow for a few days (very wise) just remember that your driving feedback messages won't come through to you until you've driven 40 miles. Instead of getting them on day 10 - you'll probably get them a few days later.

TIP: even if you don't intend to drive anywhere it's a good idea to turn on your car's ignition for a few minutes, just to keep the battery ticking over. You don't want to be scrabbling around for jump leads once the snow has disappeared.

  3. We're still here to help

We may not all be under the same roof but the whole ingenie team will still be on hand to help you in an emergency or breakdown.

Our claims team are there for you 24/7 if you do get yourself into some trouble. The number to call is 0330 303 0021 and they'll talk you through all the steps to take if you have a crash.

Here's our crash guide to help you get all the details down you need.

If you're thinking now is probably a good time to sort some extra reassurance, you can add breakdown cover to your insurance today. Just give our main call centre a ring on 0330 303 0014 and take a sigh of relief once you've done it.

If you already have breakdown cover on your car insurance our team will be happy to come and rescue you whatever the time, place or weather. The number to save in your phone is 0800 988 3393 (if your policy started before 1st June 2018) or 0800 952 3185 (if your policy started after 1st June 2018).
