Hazard perception finally gets a makeover

Theory test updates

The hazard perception test's CGI makeover - pretty cool, huh?

When I took my theory test I couldn't believe how low quality the hazard perception videos were. It's hard to do your best when you're peering at grainy videos that look like footage from an old cop show.

Welcome to the 21st century

So here's some great news: the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) is introducing new, super-realistic CGI videos into the theory test any time from now.

The hazard perception test itself isn't changing and the scoring will be the same, but I think it'll now be much easier to concentrate on clicking the hazards as they change.

Take a look at the new video style:

If you're taking your theory test in the next few months, let us know if you come across the new, improved videos!

  • Rhymes with Macaroni

My theory pass lapsed and I retook it recently. I found the GCI people distracting, but it was more realistic as I wasn’t squinting to identify if something was a car or a sheep! It does seem to have gotten more sensitive and it’s very easy to click before the window of opportunity opens, I’d recommend practicing with newer software to get familiar with this.

    • Thanks Rhymes, good to know. There are quite a few updated sites and apps popping up since the news, so it’s worth searching online for practice that reflects the new CGI style. Thanks for the tip!
