Driving licence costs to drop

A public consultation is proposing changes to the DVLA’s driving licence fees. Among other reductions, a 32% saving for online licence orders and a 15% saving for paper applications are suggested.

For people ordering online, that means a saving of £16 – which doesn’t sound like a lot until you think about the cost of driving lessons, learner insurance, theory test, practical test... Then it all adds up.

Driving licence fees

The cost of driving can be significant, especially for new drivers. I’m pleased to say that we are planning to save drivers £18m a year by cutting licence fees, thanks to the DVLA making significant savings to their running costs.

The consultation is due to finish on 25 August and you can find more information about changes to licensing fees on the GOV.UK website.
