Learning to drive

What you need to know about ingenie learner insurance

The secret to passing your test and driving off into the sunset is getting enough practice.

You need plenty of driving lessons, of course, but time spent driving in different areas and at different times is guaranteed to make you a better driver.

The tricky learner insurance bit

All that stuff about getting driving experience is lovely - but how?

Your best bet - as usual - is asking your parents. Unfortunately for them, they're often the most available people to help you with driving practice while you're learning.

But if you want to practise driving in someone else's car, how do you get them to agree without signing over everything you own and swearing a blood oath or two?

We've got you. The answer is learner driver insurance: an add-on to the car owner's own car insurance. It's cheaper than them adding you as a named driver and it protects their No Claims Discount. Just in case.

ingenie Learner insurance

Yes, big surprise - we do learner driver insurance.

ingenie Learner covers all the driving practice you do with your supervising driver. You can also use our free app to track your driving practice AND your lessons, so you know how you're doing.

Because ingenie Learner is designed just for practising, it's a way better choice than getting yourself added to someone else's car insurance as a named driver.

How ingenie Learner insurance works

  • Instant cover for your driving practice time
  • Low cost from just £1.49* a day
  • Flexible cover from 1 month to 6 months at a time
  • Refund for any full months you don't use, just in case you pass early
  • The car owner's No Claims Discount is protected
*Average daily price based on all policies sold between July 2020 - Oct 2020

How ingenie Learner protects the car owner

As well as being cheaper than the named driver option, the car owner's No Claims Discount is protected if you do get into a scrape and there's no big excess (the amount you have to pay towards the cost of fixing the car).

Some insurers will charge a lot for covering an inexperienced driver, put a special inflated excess on just for you, and then hit the car owner with increased costs the next year if you crash. Not good.

We set our learner insurance excess at just £250 so if you have a bump, it's not the end of the world.
